Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older and have a breathing tube (ventilator) that will stay in for at least 48 hours.
  • You must be getting medication to keep your blood pressure up (like adrenaline).
  • Nutrition support (tube feeding) must start within 24 hours of the breathing tube.
  • You must be able to walk and have no major memory, spinal, or nerve problems before this illness.
  • You cannot have a brain injury from cardiac arrest or stroke, or be pregnant or a prisoner.
