Who can take part
- Diagnosed with COPD for at least 1 year
- Age 35 or older
- Had 3 or more courses of prednisolone (steroid pills) for COPD flare-ups in the past year, each course at least 14 days apart
- Able to give informed consent
- Clinically stable for at least 4 weeks after the last flare-up or other serious illness
- Not currently taking daily steroid pills (maintenance oral steroids) or in the past year
