Who can take part
- Your child is between 2 and 17 years old
- Your child is having general anesthesia (being put to sleep for a procedure)
- The anesthesiologist decides a midline catheter is needed (for example, for many blood draws, loss of a lot of blood, long-term antibiotics, a hospital stay of a week or more, or a request from the surgical team)
- Your child does not need a central line (a larger IV placed in a big vein)
- Your child does not have a bleeding disorder or a history of serious blood clots
