Abdominal Muscle Strength and Pain Relief After Surgery

Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older
  • You are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) abdominal surgery through the middle of your abdomen
  • Your overall health is suitable for surgery (ASA status I–III, meaning no severe organ disease)
  • You will receive a numbing injection around your abdominal muscles as part of your routine surgery plan
  • You have not had previous abdominal surgery or abdominal mesh implants
  • You do not have blood clotting problems or take blood thinners that cannot be safely paused for surgery
