Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old and carrying one baby (singleton pregnancy)
  • Your pregnancy is at 37 weeks or more, and your baby is head-down (vertex presentation)
  • Your water bag broke 12 hours or less ago, confirmed by your doctor
  • You don't have a fever, no signs of infection, and clear fluid (not stained with meconium/baby's first stool)
  • You haven't already taken antibiotics for this pregnancy or in the past 7 days
  • You plan to deliver at a hospital participating in this study
