Gum Arabic and Electrolytes for Rehydration After Exercise

This study tests whether a drink containing gum arabic (a natural fiber) plus electrolytes (salts) helps your body rehydrate better after sweating during exercise compared to other drinks. You'd exercise until dehydrated, then drink the test beverage while researchers measure how well you rehydrate.

Who can take part

  • BMI (body mass index) between 18 and 25—a measure of healthy weight relative to height
  • Exercise regularly for fitness at a recreational level (not elite or competitive)
  • Resting heart rate below 100 beats per minute and resting blood pressure below 140/100 mmHg
  • No acute illness or recent sickness (cold, stomach problems) in the past 2 weeks
  • No current injuries that would prevent you from exercising safely
  • No history of heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, bone/joint disorders, autoimmune disease, or kidney disease
