Who can take part

  • You are a woman between 18 and 70 years old
  • You need elective (planned, non-emergency) open abdominal hysterectomy scheduled in the morning
  • You can provide written informed consent to participate
  • You do not have significant endocrine or metabolic diseases (like uncontrolled diabetes or thyroid problems)
  • You do not have a pacemaker or serious heart rhythm problems
  • You are able to receive epidural anesthesia (numbing medication given through a catheter in your lower back)
