Who can take part
- You are between 20 and 60 years old
- You are scheduled for laparoscopic weight-loss surgery (such as sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass)
- You are in generally stable health (classified as ASA III)
- You do not have severe liver disease, bleeding disorders, nerve problems, chronic pain, or drug addiction
- You are not allergic to bupivacaine (the numbing medicine) and you weigh at least 60 kg (about 132 pounds)
- You have not had previous surgery on your stomach, esophagus, liver, or pancreas
