Amnioinfusion to Protect Baby Brains in Uterine Infection

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old and pregnant with one baby (not twins or multiples)
  • You are at least 36 weeks pregnant and currently in active labor
  • You have been diagnosed with chorioamnionitis (a uterine infection) shown by fever of 100.4°F or higher plus at least one sign like high white blood cell count, discharge, or baby's fast heart rate
  • Your cervix is dilated enough to allow a small monitoring tube to be safely placed in the uterus
  • Your baby does not have a known major birth defect and can safely be born vaginally
  • You do not have placenta previa (placenta covering the cervix) and your baby's heart tracing is not in critical distress requiring immediate delivery
  • You are English-speaking and able to understand and sign informed consent
