Botulinum Toxin to Help Close Large Belly Wall Hernias

Hernia

Part of Digestive system clinical trials.

This study tests whether injecting botulinum toxin (Botox) before surgery can help close large holes in the belly wall by relaxing the muscles and making it easier to bring the edges together. This might reduce complications and improve healing after surgery.

  • Your hernia is either a primary hernia (new) or an incisional hernia (from a previous surgery scar)
  • You have loss of domain of at least 20% (meaning your abdominal organs have shifted and there's limited space to close the hole)

  • You do not have neuromuscular disorders, pregnancy, or allergy to botulinum toxin

Early botulinum toxin for open abdomen closure

This trial tests whether giving botulinum toxin (a treatment that relaxes muscles) early after surgery can help close the abdomen more easily. It may be a good option if you have had abdominal surgery that left your belly open.

Guided Abdominal Closure for Large Hernia Repair

This trial tests a method to close the abdominal wall during hernia repair surgery. It looks at how your lungs and belly respond during surgery to reduce complications after a large hernia repair.
