Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a scheduled, non-emergency surgery for a belly hernia.
  • Your hernia is large (at least 15 cm wide or takes up over 25% of your belly space on a scan).
  • Your surgery will be an open cut down the middle, with muscle separation and release.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have no muscle or nerve disease, no stoma, no current infection, and no severe lung disease with oxygen use.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 45 or lower.
