Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are having planned (non-emergency) heart surgery that requires opening your breastbone, such as bypass surgery or valve repair
  • You expect to stay in the hospital for at least 3 days after surgery
  • You can understand study information and sign a consent form
  • You are able to complete follow-up visits at 1 week and 3 months after surgery
  • You do not have significant kidney disease, serious mental health conditions, or language barriers that prevent understanding questionnaires
