Who can take part

  • You are 60 years old or older and having cardiac surgery.
  • You do not have an allergy to methadone.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or less.
  • You do not have severe sleep apnea.
  • Your lungs are stable (no severe lung disease needing oxygen).
  • You are not on heart/life support machines before surgery and this is not an emergency surgery.
