- You are 18 years or older
- You have a BMI (body mass index) under 35 kg/m²
- You are having a planned hip surgery on one side only, performed under spinal anesthesia (numbing from the spine down)
- You are in generally good health, with no serious medical conditions that would make surgery very risky (ASA class I-III)
- You do not have an infection, bleeding disorder, or allergy to local anesthetics
- You are able to accurately report your pain levels after surgery
