  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You are having planned (non-emergency) lower abdominal surgery
  • Your overall health is rated as ASA I, II, or III (your doctor can tell you this)
  • You do not have bleeding disorders or take blood-thinning medications
  • You are not pregnant and do not have serious heart valve problems or spine deformities
  • You have not had previous spine surgery
