Who can take part

  • You are admitted to University Hospital Basel with cardiogenic shock, or develop it during your hospital stay
  • You are 18 years old or older
  • Your heart is not pumping blood effectively, causing low oxygen and nutrients to reach your organs
  • Your blood pressure is very low (below 90 mmHg) or you need medications/machines to support your circulation
  • Blood tests show signs your body is not getting enough oxygen (high lactate levels)
  • You have at least one sign of poor circulation, such as cold extremities, confusion, low urine output, or fluid buildup
