Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You are having a major surgery (like hip, knee, shoulder replacement, spine surgery, breast surgery, gynecologic surgery, or abdominal surgery).
- Your medical history before surgery suggests you may be at higher risk for long-term opioid use (we check this with a special computer model).
- You are able to understand and agree to the study.
- You are not pregnant, not in prison, and you have not had problems with opioids in the past.
