Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and are in the hospital or emergency department.
- You have a urinary tract infection with a fever or low body temperature, but it is not severe (no sepsis).
- A test shows bacteria in your urine or a certain type of bacteria (gram-negative) on a stain.
- You need antibiotics through a vein (IV) and must stay in the hospital.
- In the last 6 months, you had a sample that grew a bacteria resistant to a specific strong antibiotic (third-generation cephalosporin).
- You are not pregnant, not allergic to penicillin-type antibiotics, and do not have a very low white blood cell count.
