Hyaluronic acid injection for chronic shoulder tendon pain
Part of Bones, joints & muscles, Pain clinical trials.
This study tests an ultrasound-guided injection of hyaluronic acid (a natural lubricant) into the tendon of your shoulder to see if it helps with long-lasting pain. It is for people with chronic (over 12 weeks) shoulder tendon pain without a tear or calcium deposits, who haven't had help from other treatments.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You have had shoulder pain from a tendon problem (supraspinatus) for more than 12 weeks.
- An ultrasound shows that your tendon is not torn and has no calcium buildup (calcific tendinopathy).
- You have already tried other treatments like physical therapy or anti-inflammatory medicines, but they didn’t help enough.
- You have not had a corticosteroid or PRP shot in your shoulder within the last 3 months, and no shock wave therapy in the last 3 months.
- You are not allergic to hyaluronic acid (a natural substance used in the injection).

This trial tests if an injection of hyaluronic acid (a natural lubricant) can reduce pain and improve function in people with shoulder tendinopathy (irritation of a tendon). It’s for those who haven’t gotten better with other treatments like rest or physical therapy.
This trial tests if a hyaluronic acid injection can reduce pain and improve movement in people with shoulder bursitis. You'll get the injection and have follow-up visits over 3 months.
This trial tests whether different types of hyaluronic acid (a natural lubricant) injected into the shoulder can reduce pain and improve movement for people with subdeltoid bursitis (inflammation of the shoulder bursa). If you have had shoulder pain for less than 3 months and haven't had a shoulder injection recently, this study might be a fit.
This study compares two treatments—hyaluronic acid (a natural lubricant) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP, made from your own blood)—for chronic tendon pain. You may be a good fit if you have had pain in your Achilles tendon or golfer's elbow for more than 3 months and are looking for a non-surgical option.
This trial compares taking an oral supplement versus getting hyaluronic acid injections for ongoing shoulder pain due to a partial rotator cuff tear. It aims to see which treatment works better for improving movement and reducing pain without surgery.
This trial tests if adding a steroid to hyaluronic acid injections can better reduce pain and improve movement in people with shoulder bursitis. You will receive injections and be checked over the next 3 months.
