This study tests whether gentle massage and tapping on your arm near the IV site can lower the chance of irritation (phlebitis) from the IV. If you qualify, you would do simple hand and arm motions for a short time each day while you have the IV.

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have an IV line in your arm that was put in during the last 24 hours.
  • You will need the IV for at least 2 more days.
  • You are awake and alert.
  • You can move your hand and arm to do gentle tapping and massage exercises.
