Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for major abdominal surgery that will last at least 2 hours under general anesthesia.
  • You do not have a severe heart condition, such as a recent heart attack, very slow heartbeat, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • You do not have uncontrolled diabetes or high blood sugar.
  • You do not have a neurological or psychiatric condition that affects your thinking or memory.
