Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for major abdominal surgery expected to last more than 2 hours
  • You are between 18 and 70 years old
  • You have an ASA physical status score of I, II, or III (broadly, you are in good to moderate health)
  • You do not have severe uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent heart problems, advanced kidney or liver disease, or an active infection in the blood
  • You are not pregnant
