Who can take part
- You are scheduled for major abdominal surgery expected to last more than 2 hours
- You are between 18 and 70 years old
- You have an ASA physical status score of I, II, or III (broadly, you are in good to moderate health)
- You do not have severe uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent heart problems, advanced kidney or liver disease, or an active infection in the blood
- You are not pregnant
