Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) and it is at an advanced stage (stage C or stage B that can't be treated with surgery or local treatments).
- Your liver function is good (a score called Child-Pugh below 7) and you have not had a condition called hepatic encephalopathy (confusion caused by liver failure).
- You have not had any prior treatment for your liver cancer that is given throughout the body (like chemotherapy or targeted pills). If you had such treatment before or after surgery, it must have been at least 6 months before your cancer came back.
- You have at least one tumor that can be measured on a scan and has not been previously treated with local methods (or if it was, it has grown).
- You are generally able to take care of yourself (ECOG score 0 or 1) and are expected to live at least 3 months.
- Your blood counts, liver, kidney, and clotting tests are within acceptable ranges.
- If you can have children, you must agree to use reliable birth control during the study and for 7 months after the last dose.
- You are willing and able to follow all study requirements.
