Who can take part

  • Your baby is between 0 and 4 months old
  • You are the main person caring for your baby
  • You speak English
  • Your baby is being seen in the pediatric emergency room and is not critically ill
  • You are not already following all four recommended safe sleep practices
  • You can complete follow-up surveys by phone or email.
  • You are the legal guardian of the baby.
  • You are not completely following all safe sleep recommendations.
  • You cannot be involved if your baby needs urgent medical care for a life-threatening condition.
  • You are unable to participate if you have a language barrier (non-English speaking).
  • You cannot take part if you are already meeting all safe sleep recommendations.
  • You are able to provide consent for your baby's participation.
  • You are unable to participate if you are unable to provide a baseline survey or follow-up contact.
  • You must be available for a follow-up by phone or email.
  • You are eligible if you follow 3 out of 4 safe sleep guidelines, but not all four.
  • You are not eligible if you are completely adherent to all 4 safe sleep guidelines.
