Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and being treated in the emergency department at Intermountain Medical Center.
  • You have suspected sepsis (a severe infection in your body).
  • You have low blood pressure or a high lactate level (a marker of severe infection) at the time you join.
  • You have not already received a large amount of IV fluids, and you are not currently having certain conditions like a heart attack, stroke, or bleeding.
  • You are not pregnant, not in prison, and have been in the emergency department for less than 6 hours.
