Who can take part
- Participant is a child age 2–12, or (in some cases) age 2–18 if planning stem cell transplant
- They have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or they are a high-risk infant with a sibling with ASD, or they are a typically developing child
- A parent or legal guardian can sign the study consent
- No use of steroid or immune-suppressing medicines in the last 4 weeks (for the child and/or mother)
- No serious infection or sepsis in the past 6 months
- No certain conditions like severe uncontrolled seizures or blood/cancer diseases
