Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of fatty liver on a biopsy (tissue sample) or on imaging like ultrasound/CT/MRI.
  • You should not have a history of heavy alcohol use.
  • You should not have viral hepatitis (like hepatitis B or C).
  • You should not have autoimmune hepatitis or other immune-caused liver inflammation.
  • You should not have certain genetic/metabolic liver conditions (for example hemochromatosis, Wilson disease, or alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency).
  • You should not be taking medications known to harm the liver (examples given include amiodarone).
