This study uses MRI scans to look at what’s happening around your hip implant—how well it’s integrating with bone and whether there are tissue reactions. It may help doctors better understand how different hip implant materials behave, especially after problems like dislocation or infection.

Who can take part
- You have a total hip replacement (either ceramic or metal-on-plastic), and you may be scheduled for revision or already have one
- If you have a ceramic implant, you may qualify for the ceramic cohort (Cohort 2, and also part of the revision group criteria)
- If you have a metal-on-plastic implant, you may qualify if it’s over 1 year old or you’ve had repeated dislocations (Cohort 1) and/or if you have a current original or revised hip (Cohort 2)
- You may qualify if your hip is infected (Cohort 1 includes infected implants)
- You must be able to safely have an MRI (no standard MRI safety issues)
- You should not have occupational exposure to cobalt or chromium, and you should not have certain recalled or metal-on-metal implants
