Capsaicin-based injection for hard-to-treat cancer bone pain

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • Your cancer causes long-lasting, severe pain in specific body areas (mid-chest down to the lower body) and usual pain medicines haven’t worked well.
  • You are not on a plan for treatment that could cure your cancer during the study (but ongoing palliative care is allowed if already started).
  • Your average pain is still very high: at least 6 out of 10 on most days in the 3 weeks before treatment.
  • You must complete a test injection procedure and get at least 30% pain relief for long enough for the anesthetic to work.
  • You can safely have the study procedures (including MRI and an eye exam) and follow medication/blood-check instructions before the injection.

Capsaicin cream for chemo-related nerve pain in legs
