Family study for inherited lung scarring causes

This study looks at what causes familial (inherited) pulmonary fibrosis by studying relatives who are not yet diagnosed with the lung disease. You may help researchers understand risk and early changes in the lungs within families.

Who can take part

  • You must be a sibling or adult child of someone in your family with the lung condition
  • At least two relatives in the family should be known to have idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP)
  • You personally must NOT have a diagnosis of IIP or IPF (pulmonary fibrosis)
  • You must be able to travel to Nashville for 1–2 outpatient visits and complete a lung questionnaire
  • Your age must be between 40 and 75 (with a limited extra allowance if your relative was diagnosed before age 50)
  • You must not have other illnesses or exposures that could explain similar symptoms (like certain autoimmune diseases or work-related lung disease)
