Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 65 years old.
  • You are in the hospital for one of these: surgery for an abdominal infection, surgery for necrotizing soft tissue infection, surgery for an infected joint, or treatment for pneumonia.
  • You do not have a recent injury to the brain (traumatic brain injury).
  • You are not blind.
  • You are not immunocompromised or taking strong immune-suppressing medicines.
  • You have not had an infection that needed treatment in the last 30 days and you do not have SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
