Who can take part

  • Be willing and able to sign the study consent form (or a legal surrogate can consent if approved).
  • Be 18 years old or older.
  • Be currently receiving mechanical ventilation or an ECMO machine for 5 days or more.
  • This ICU admission must be the first time you are being evaluated for sclerosing cholangitis—do not have it diagnosed before this current ICU stay.
  • The diagnosis of sclerosing cholangitis should not have been known before you were admitted to the ICU this time.
