This study looks at whether starting Flomax around the time of thoracic (chest) surgery can help prevent a painful problem called urinary retention (not being able to pee after surgery). You might benefit if you’re at risk of not urinating after your operation and can safely take Flomax.

Who can take part
- You are male and age 50 or older
- You are scheduled for a minimally invasive chest procedure (like wedge resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, pleural biopsy, or pleurodesis)
- Your surgery is scheduled more than 3 days after you sign (consent)
- You are not already taking Flomax (tamsulosin)
- You do not have an allergy to Flomax or sulfa medicines
- Your blood pressure is high enough and stable enough for study medication (not too low, and no big drop when standing)
