Who can take part

  • You have a specific type of ankle fracture in two places (bimalleolar) that needs surgery
  • Your surgery plan uses both inner (medial) and outer (lateral) incisions
  • Your injury is isolated (not a major combination injury with other bones or organs), and it is not an open fracture
  • You are able to be part of follow-up calls and you can sign consent
  • You can safely receive the study’s standard pain medicines (gabapentin, oxycodone, acetaminophen, ibuprofen)
  • You do not have long-term opioid use or a history of opioid misuse, and you can speak English for calls
