Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a broken tibia (shin bone) that needs surgery.
  • Your injury is an isolated fracture (no other major injuries).
  • You have not had a previous surgery on the same leg for this fracture.
  • You don't have a history of anxiety, chronic pain, or long-term opioid use.
  • You don't have kidney or liver disease, and you aren't allergic to common pain medicines.
  • You are able to report your pain level on a scale after surgery.
