Who can take part
- You’re 18 years or older and having elective (planned) open liver surgery through a right subcostal or midline incision
- You’re healthy enough for anesthesia (ASA physical status I to III)
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 17 and 40
- You can follow the study plan for the full study period and sign consent before any study steps
- Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test and not be breastfeeding
- You do not have conditions that make spinal/epidural anesthesia unsafe, or major health problems that would raise risk
