Brain stimulation study for a language-loss dementia subtype

This trial tests whether a painless form of brain stimulation can improve language and thinking skills in people with the logopenic variant of primary progressive aphasia (a dementia that affects language). You may receive brain stimulation along with repeated clinic visits to track changes over time.

Who can take part

  • You’re age 50 to 80
  • You’re right-handed and comfortable using English
  • You have at least a high-school level of education
  • You’ve been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) or a related PPA variant
  • You cannot have major memory/language impairment (for example, MMSE 18 or higher, or MOCA 15 or higher)
  • If doing MRI: you must not have severe claustrophobia, metal/pacemaker implants, and you must not be pregnant
