  • You were diagnosed with actinic keratosis within the last 6 months
  • You are age 60 or older
  • You can understand the study steps, risks, and benefits, and give consent
  • You have fair skin (Fitzpatrick type I or II)
  • You have both a right and left forearm that can be treated
  • You do not have certain skin/health issues that could affect healing or safety

Can laser treatment prevent skin spots in older adults?

This study tests if a laser treatment on your forearms can prevent precancerous spots (actinic keratoses) from developing in older adults with fair skin. You would receive the laser on one arm and a sham treatment on the other, and your skin will be monitored.

This study tests if a moisturizing cream called Lipikar Baume AP+M can help with actinic keratoses (rough, scaly spots caused by sun damage) on the forearms or backs of the hands. You'll use the cream on one arm and compare it to the other arm to see if it makes a difference.

Freezing vs. cream for sun-damaged spots
