Who can take part

  • Your biopsy shows DCIS only (not invasive cancer) on core needle biopsy
  • The breast abnormality on imaging is 4 cm or less, and you don’t have a palpable lump
  • You had a needle biopsy within 16 weeks before randomization, and a marker was placed for surgery/radiation planning
  • Your planned surgery is usually lumpectomy (breast-conserving). Mastectomy may be allowed only in specific situations after randomization
  • A radiation specialist believes partial breast radiation is feasible (about 30% or less of the breast volume)
  • You can’t have had prior radiation to the same breast, and you can’t be pregnant or breastfeeding
