Comparing one- vs two-side brain stimulation for depression

This trial compares two versions of a noninvasive brain treatment called rTMS to see which side-to-side approach works better for major depression. You may be eligible if you still have moderate depressive symptoms despite trying at least one antidepressant.

Who can take part

  • You can freely and competently consent to join, and you’re 18 or older
  • You have major depression (current episode) without psychosis, and it has not improved after at least one adequate antidepressant treatment this time
  • Your depression is moderate right now (Hamilton Depression score of at least 15)
  • You can read and speak English and/or French, and you’ve chosen to start the rTMS referral plan
  • You can follow the treatment schedule, and your medication or therapy plan has been stable for at least 4 weeks
  • If you’re 65 or older, your memory/thinking score on MMSE must be high enough (education-adjusted score at least 24)
