Gallium IV study for adults with cystic fibrosis and NTM lung infection

Nontuberculous Mycobacterium Infection

This Phase 1 study tests whether an IV medicine called gallium can treat hard-to-treat lung infections (NTM) in adults with cystic fibrosis. It is mainly for people who have not been treated yet for NTM or who have NTM that has not cleared despite antibiotics.

Who can take part

  • Be age 18 or older and able to consent (or have a legal representative consent)
  • Have a cystic fibrosis diagnosis and ongoing NTM lung infection on repeat sputum/BAL cultures
  • Have NTM cultures showing the same type/species (M. avium complex and/or M. abscessus complex) over time
  • Either no prior NTM treatment that cleared the infection (or treatment that did not clear it for long periods, depending on which group you’re in)
  • Lung function at screening must be at least 25% predicted (FEV1 ≥ 25%)
  • Be able to cough up sputum and be medically stable (no major health changes) in the week before starting
