Who can take part
- You are a woman age 18 or older
- Your gestational trophoblastic tumor is “low-risk” (FIGO score 6 or less) and methotrexate is planned as first treatment
- You are well enough for treatment (ECOG 0 to 2) and expected to live at least 16 weeks
- Recent blood and organ tests meet limits (bone marrow, kidneys, and liver), and you have adequate bone marrow cells and function
- You cannot be pregnant and must use two very reliable birth-control methods during treatment and for 12 months after avelumab
- You must not have had certain immune therapies before (anti–PD-1/PD-L1/CTLA-4 or similar immune checkpoint antibodies)
