Nerve-pain device study for pain after C-section

This study tests whether a small skin electrical nerve stimulator (called TENS) can reduce pain after a planned or not-urgent C-section. You may be more likely to have less pain and use fewer pain medicines if the TENS helps you.

Who can take part

  • You are having a scheduled or not-urgent cesarean birth (C-section)
  • You can speak and read English enough to participate and consent
  • You do not have a history of long-term (chronic) pain or long-term opioid (strong painkiller) use
  • In the 6 months before delivery, you did not take opioids for more than 1 week
  • You have not used the TENS unit before, and you did not get a midline vertical skin incision
  • You will receive the study’s spinal (intrathecal) opioid pain medicine during the C-section
