Who can take part

  • You are in the second surgery step of a staged knee reimplantation (the “second-stage” operation).
  • Your original knee replacement was for “wear-and-tear” knee arthritis (knee osteoarthritis).
  • Your prior knee infection meets the study’s international infection definition for knee implant infections.
  • You likely do not have serious bone damage at surgery (Anderson Orthopaedic score II or less).
  • You do not have certain health conditions (autoimmune disease, diabetes, poor blood flow to the legs, immune problems).
  • You either had only one type of germ found, and there are enough germs/records from the first surgery to study (no missing pathogens).
