Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must be in an ASA health-risk group of 1 to 3 (not the highest risk)
  • You are expected to need a breathing machine (ventilator) in the ICU or operating room
  • You likely should not have severe COPD/emphysema, or heart failure
  • Your ventilator settings should not be extremely high (PEEP over 16 or FiO2 over 80%)
  • You should not have a known/suspected untreated lung collapse (pneumothorax)
