Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have squamous cell carcinoma that started in the lining of the mouth/oral cavity.
- You had surgery to remove the tumor plus a neck dissection on the same side (at least neck levels Ib to III) that includes the submandibular gland.
- After surgery, you received radiation (or chemo-radiation) to the tumor area and the neck, including the opposite side neck levels Ib to IV.
- You do not have prior radiation to the head and neck (this study is not for “re-irradiation”).
- You do not have certain infections (HIV, hepatitis B/C, syphilis) and you do not have Sjögren’s syndrome or a similar condition that affects saliva.
- You are not allergic to mice or gentamicin, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
