Who can take part
- You are between 1 and 60 years old
- You need a bladder transplant because of severe bladder pressure/leaks or bladder overactivity causing kidney problems
- If getting a kidney transplant too, your kidney function is low (GFR about 20 or less) or you’re on dialysis
- You can learn and follow bladder care training, such as clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) and bladder “cycling”
- You must be approved by the Mayo Clinic kidney and transplant team, including a psychological readiness check
- You must avoid pregnancy for 1 year after surgery (for female participants, only if applicable)
