Who can take part

  • You must be expected to need a kidney transplant because of a specific kidney-immune/genetic condition, or because a prior kidney transplant was rejected
  • You have chronic kidney disease at least stage 3
  • You are taking low-dose steroids (less than 0.5 mg per kg per day)
  • The kidney donor and recipient must be an almost identical genetic match for key immune genes (HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-Cw, HLA-DQB1, HLA-DRB1)
  • Your overall ability to function is enough (Karnofsky/Lansky score must be over 50)
  • You must be able to give consent (or have a legal representative), and if you could become pregnant you must use effective birth control during treatment
