Brain stimulation with therapy for risky alcohol use

This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation device can make standard psychotherapy work better for people who drink in a risky way. It’s designed for community participants who are not already in alcohol-use treatment.

Who can take part

  • You consider your drinking a problem
  • Your AUDIT questionnaire score shows risky drinking
  • You are right-handed (not left-handed or both)
  • You are age 21 to 60
  • You are not currently in treatment for alcohol use disorder and haven’t been in the past 12 months
  • You can have study tests safely (no brain injury/major neurological illness, no psychosis, no major MRI/tACS safety issues)
