This study compares different ways of keeping your thumb still (immobilizing it) after thumb base joint surgery. It aims to see which immobilization approach leads to better recovery and hand function.

Who can take part
- Be age 40 or older
- You are scheduled for thumb base joint (first CMC) arthroplasty
- Your surgery must be one of these: simple trapeziectomy, trapeziectomy with LRTI, or suspensionplasty
- You have NOT had prior surgery at the base of your thumb
- You are not getting a carpal tunnel release or thumb MCP arthrodesis at the same time
- You are not having implant arthroplasty and do not have inflammatory arthritis or hypermobility syndrome
