Who can take part

  • Be age 40 or older
  • You are scheduled for thumb base joint (first CMC) arthroplasty
  • Your surgery must be one of these: simple trapeziectomy, trapeziectomy with LRTI, or suspensionplasty
  • You have NOT had prior surgery at the base of your thumb
  • You are not getting a carpal tunnel release or thumb MCP arthrodesis at the same time
  • You are not having implant arthroplasty and do not have inflammatory arthritis or hypermobility syndrome
